INFG Bid For Ryder Cup Glory Begins

At a tense Shrewsbury Driving Range, the Shrewsbury Baptist Church INFG Group’s bid for inclusion in the European Ryder Cup team got under way. In a move which will surprise many, Group captain (that’s captain of the group – he’s not joining the RAF) Tim Curtis was bullish about his chances of getting at least one representative into the Ryder Cup team.
His face was etched with tension, never more so than when Alistair had a driver in his hand, Tim said “Obviously it will be an uphill battle. I am given to understand that some courses actually do have hills, which makes tonight’s event ideal preparation. Some of the lads, like Geoff for example, could do with losing a couple of pounds so setting him off tramping up and down hills would be asking for trouble. One or two of the boys managed to hit the ball in a straight line, which is a big plus at this stage.”
When asked to comment, European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomery said “What? Who?!!”
But seriously, the INFG group’s latest event, Driving for Show, took place on a cold, wet and windy evening at the Shrewsbury driving range. The evening was well attended despite the inclement weather and a good time was had by all.
The highlights of the evening were undoubtedly provided by Alistair Stubbs who proved once again that he can do things with a golf club and ball that Tiger Woods could only dream of. His shot off the tee with a driver which ended up with the ball trapped in the girder a foot forward of him and three feet above his head was nothing short of miraculous!!
Geoff Day displayed in no uncertain terms why he is not a golfer and Tim Curtis showed why he is. His protestations that he “…hardly ever gets to play these days…” were met with a healthy degree of scepticism.
Prizes were awarded for various displays of skill (or otherwise) in the shape of Yorkie bars (It’s Not For Girls – it’s a joke – geddit??)
The next event which is at the Dragon King buffet on Monday 9th March 2009 at 7.30 pm.
